Maye Musk, the mother of Elon Musk, was recently granted an honorary doctorate in dietetics by a university in South Africa in recognition of her valuable contributions to nutritional research.
In a tweet, Musk expressed that receiving a PhD is the greatest form of recognition one can achieve after dedicating their adult life to the study and promotion of dietetics.
In a video clip shared on social media, Maye Musk expressed her excitement about receiving an honorary doctorate in dietetics from the University of the Free State.
Exclaiming “I am now Dr. Maye Musk PhD!” After spending her adult life devoted to research in nutrition and advocating for dietitians, Musk described the recognition as the best she’s ever received, even bringing her to tears during the ceremony.
Though it wasn’t originally part of her plans, receiving this recognition was the pinnacle of her achievements. The video showed Musk accepting the degree, wearing a red graduation robe.
Maye Musk shared fond memories of the University of the Free State’s Bloemfontein campus where she received her honorary doctorate in dietetics, and even reminisced about earning her master’s degree from the same institution.
The unexpected honor left her feeling grateful and elated, and she expressed her appreciation to the university: “Thank you very much for this honor.
My children are very proud of me. This is the best thing that has ever happened to me. It has been a wonderful experience in Bloemfontein and at Kovsies, everybody was great. Thank you,” as reported by the University.
Maye Musk, aged 75, is a registered dietitian who has taken the registration exams in three different countries. With over 45 years of experience running her own nutrition business, she is a well-known figure in the field.
