Elon Musk confirms he has fired over 80% of Twitter employees so far. Here’s Why?:- Musk claims that there were ‘just under 8,000’ staff members when he bought the company. Now, Twitter is left with around 1,500 employees.
According to a recent announcement made by Elon Musk during a Twitter Spaces interview with the BBC, only 1,500 of the approximately 8,000 employees who worked for Twitter at the time of his company’s $44 billion takeover in October 2022 remain employed.
This represents a reduction of over 80% of Twitter’s total workforce, with multiple rounds of layoffs having been carried out since the acquisition.
Elon Musk
During his recent Twitter Spaces interview with the BBC, Elon Musk was asked about the difficulty of letting go of such a large number of employees.
In response, Musk stated that it was “not fun at all” and could be “painful”. He also clarified that he does not personally handle all of the terminations, as it would be impractical to speak with so many people face to face.
Musk won’t sell Twitter
According to Elon Musk, his tenure at Twitter has been a “rollercoaster” experience, but things are currently progressing “reasonably well.”
However, Musk has admitted that he only acquired Twitter because he felt he had to. Recently, he revealed that he believes Twitter’s true value is less than half of the $44 billion he paid for it, estimating its worth to be around $20 billion.
Despite this apparent discrepancy in value, Musk has no intention of selling Twitter, even if he were offered the full amount he paid for it.
He has stated that he would only consider selling the platform if the buyer agreed to operate it with the same commitment to truth and transparency that he holds.
End of Legacy Blue Ticks
On April 20th, also known as “4/20”, Elon Musk tweeted about the upcoming end of legacy blue checkmarks on social media.
During his interview with the BBC, Musk confirmed that any account that doesn’t pay for verification will lose its blue checkmark by the following week. This move will affect all social media platforms, not just Twitter.
